Abstract

The research discusses on territorial functioning inthe context of victimization and public housing in Malaysia. Territorialfunctioning is viewed as a social process in an ethnically culturallycontextual phenomenon. This research focused on territorial functioning and itsrelationship with victimization, which vary according to the resident’scharacteristics. In particular, this study, which is quantitative in nature, was conducted in the Subang Jaya housing area. Data were collected andadministered through face to face interviews with the household in the SubangJaya housing area. The stratified random sampling obtained from the survey was73% of the total 300 households with 218 samples of the Subang Jaya housingarea. The data were then examined using SPSS through descriptive andinferential analysis. Territorial markers, territorial behaviour andterritorial attitudes were also tested using factor analysis. The main purposeof the process is to calculate and combine territorial attitudes and markingbehaviour as to create the overall total for territorial functioning as a wholefigure. The whole figure known as territorial functioning is correlated with demographicdata and victimization.
